Hans Fischer
Hans Fischer is a veteran of German BMX sport and has close ties to Weiterstadt. He came to the BMX sport at the beginning of the 1980s through his son. Hans was a founding member of the BMX department of the Weiterstadt club "TSV Braunshardt" in 1983. In the same year, he helped build the track in Weiterstadt and has taken on many different tasks since then. As a track attendant, he was actively involved in the construction and maintenance of the track, as well as checking the start gate and taking on other technical tasks for many years.
In addition to several runs in the German Championship, the 1986 European Championship was probably his biggest event in which he actively participated for the club. There was a very famous scene here, which can be traced back to an unusual bet. Hans had made a bet with Mrs Kienzle in advance that he would ride around the track at the European Championships on an ordinary bicycle wearing a top hat and tails. The wager was a crate of sparkling wine. And indeed: during a break in the race, Hans did a lap of honour on the men's bike in full kit - to the delight of the spectators and fortunately without crashing. Bet won, hearts of the guests won, crate of sparkling wine won! A photo from back then shows Hans in this scene.
Even after his son's active time at the end of the 1980s, Hans remained loyal to the club and was always available for all kinds of activities when he was needed. Since 1995, Hans has also been a regular at the Veterans' Cup races and enjoys meeting the old-schoolers he got to know as a child and teenager.
Hans Fischer has been inducted into the German BMX Hall of Fame for his more than 40 years of service to the BMX sport in the TSV Braunshardt/Weiterstadt club and for his 30 years of loyal support for the Veterans' Cup. Congratulations Hans and here's to many more years together.
