Dieter Schadowski

Dieter Schadowski was the great constant in the German BMX circus. There was hardly an event in which he wasn't involved in some way: be it as a shop owner, organiser, team manager, sponsor or silent advisor. Dieter loved BMX and changed, advanced and shaped the sport with his commitment.
Dieter opened Rainer's Bike Shop in 1982 after his son Rainer started selling his used BMX parts to local kids. At some point, there were no more used parts, so he started sourcing new parts. Dieter liked the idea and so the bike shop was born.
In May 1983, Rainer's Bike Shop became an official company. Rainer took care of the sales in the shop and the replenishment, because he knew which parts were in demand. He assembled and repaired the bikes, while Dieter took care of the suppliers. Dieter's wife Elisabeth took the orders on the phone. The deliveries went all over Europe and later all over the world.
From 1982 to 1989, Dieter was still employed as an engineer and the bike shop ran on the side. Rainer's Bike Shop is still active today without interruption and is certainly the oldest BMX shop still in existence in Germany.
Dieter was also active in the BDR as a BMX specialist in Baden, WAV at many races and head of the BMX department at RSG Karlsruhe. Even as a teenager, he loved racing, especially motorbike and car racing. Although Dieter was not able to participate in BMX as an active rider, he was involved in the background, which he enjoyed to the end.
Dieter had the idea for the BMX museum in 1999. He had collected 8 or 9 of Rainer's discarded bikes, all in very good condition. Over time, bikes from other riders were added and suddenly it was a considerable collection. The website was added in 2001.
Dieter has sponsored the Veterans' Cup since the third edition in 1997 and supported the event financially and with non-cash prizes. He was also the idea generator and long-standing jury member of the beauty show.
Dieter Schadowski was inducted into the German BMX Hall of Fame in 2024 for his pioneering work as a BMX dealer, his constant commitment to all aspects of BMX sport, the BMX Museum and, last but not least, his support of the Veterans Cup through financial and material donations (in particular ribbons, certificates etc. for the Bike Beauty Show).
