BMX Hall of Fame Germany

Manifesto

Welcome to the German BMX Hall of Fame. Why is there a hall of fame for German BMXers? And why now? Who will get in? Who decides? And what does the Hall of Fame actually look like? In the following, we will describe the background to our new initiative.

What is the HOF?

As the history of BMX in Germany goes back more than 40 years, it was time to pay homage to the long history and the people who shaped it. Since the early 1980s, there have been great BMXers, clubs, pioneers, shops and teams in this country who have made a name for themselves both nationally and internationally. We would like to honour these people and provide a format where you can read about them.

The idea of founding a German BMX Hall of Fame has been around for a while. The first ideas to create a HoF for Germany were already there 2-3 years ago. But the time didn't seem ripe yet, so it was put on ice for the time being. A few months ago, Thomas Fritscher and Ralf Mauritz got talking about starting a German Hall of Fame. Thomas brought along the freestylers Ralf Maier and Christoph Huber as fellow campaigners, Ralf the racers Oliver Kienzle and Dirk Haynberg. These six people will form the core of the HoF in future and coordinate the organisation of the nominations and the election. You can find out more about our core jury here. Whether racers, freestylers, pioneers, veterans or in the general category Special: In the German BMX Hall of Fame we want to honour the people who have made an outstanding contribution to the BMX sport in Germany. The HoF will be a website on which every member will be given a virtual place. The Hall of Fame will be officially presented on the 30th anniversary of the Veterans' Cup on 28 September 2024 and will be activated with the first members.

How does the process work?

How are people nominated or elected? A place in the German BMX Hall of Fame (HoF) is awarded in the following way: Firstly, anyone can nominate one person per category via bmxhof.de who they think should be included in the HoF. The categories are Racer, Freestyler, Pioneer, Veteran and Special. At the end of the nomination phase, all nominations will be listed according to the frequency of nominations and the top 10 in each category will be presented to the core jury. From these top 10, the jury members select the individuals who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in the first year. The selected HoF members will be officially honoured at the 30th Veterans' Cup and their place of honour will be activated on the website at the end of September 2024. In subsequent years, these first members of the HoF will then be part of the jury themselves. Next year, there will therefore be another nomination phase, the proposed lists of people will be condensed to the top 10 by the core jury and the new HoF members will be selected by the core jury and the HoF members already included. In this way, the jury becomes larger every year and the election is put on a broader footing.

Let's cultivate the German BMX tradition together and honour the former BMX legends. Through the collective nomination, the diverse categories and the objective election of the members, the German BMX Hall of Fame should become a common approach for all BMX fans in Germany.

We hope you enjoy visiting this page and the information on the honoured members.
